Redbird 7
After watching CAA men's basketball championship in Indianapolis, seven men boarded a private plane that night to return to Bloomington, Illinois. On April 7, 2015, just after midnight, a crash occured in a Bloomington field, killing all on board. Those seven men were husbands, fathers, sons, alums, coaches, and Redbirds through and through.

A place to reflect
As a part of the Redbird Rembrance campaign, the memorial was designed to be a place of respect, honor, commitment, pride, support, and above all else, remembrance. The fountain in the center of the memorial has seven natural basalt column fountains installed above a pond-less basin symbolizing the loss and a commitment to remember seven friends and co-workers. A dedication plaque welcomes visitors into the memorial, which is protected by a semi-circle stone wall with built-in lights, where the names of the seven Redbirds are etched.
