Redbird Romance

  • A gift for all "Lovebirds"

One summer night Lisa Rinkenberger ’81, M.S. ’84, and Matt Walsh ’84 shared their first kiss on a bench in front of the Bone Student Center. The married in December of 1985.

It became tradition for the two to drive from their Chicago home annually to visit the bench. On one of those trips, they discovered it was no longer near the bicycle racks.

Matt dreamed to replace the bench and prior to the couple's 25th wedding anniversary, he contact Facilities Services with the result being the creation of a stone bench with the engraving of “To Those Who Fell in Love at ISU.”

Matt drove Lisa on a cold, sleeting day to campus in 2010 where she saw the bench and claimed it was the perfect gift.

The bench is a reminder of past campus couples romances and will always be the perfect place for those in the future who have yet to begin their own Redbird romance.
